Requiem for a Dream Review: How Far Will You Go?
Desire and sacrifice. How far will you go to get what you want? How far will you go to get what you need? To get what you think you need? To get what you once had? To get comfortable, even if it’s killing you. How far will you go?
Requiem for a Dream answers these questions. It was never just about the drugs. It's about life. About dissatisfaction. An unwillingness to be present. Something stopping you from wanting to move forward. A subconscious roadblock. Something burdensome that you face every single day. Something that haunts you. Why do we run from such things? From the pain of experience comes dwindle of hope. The eventual loss of it all together. They just wanted to get away. They just wanted to feel good, like they remember feeling. So life offers up things that claim to take away the pain, to “remove” this roadblock. And then there are things that actually do. And I guess choosing between them is hard. Not only must you have discernment, but you must also have somebody. Somebody by your side. Somebody who gets it. Even if that person is yourself.
Sara Goldfarb is an amazing character. She has become one of my favorite characters. She didn't care about being skinny or the dress or the TV or sitting in the best spot outside with all the other women. I don't even think she cared about that damn fridge. That fucking fridge! She just wanted to share her life with somebody. Like she remembers doing before. Loss has made her lost. And I hope she can recover. This is going up as one of my favorite movies. Thank you.
